“Winning the Lost at All Cost” Since 1972…
Our Church History
Pastor James H. Quick Sr. was God divinely inspired him to further his ministry by pastoring. On December 28, 1972, the keys opened the door to a small white church on Kings Run Drive in Winton Terrance with 35 members studying in one large room and many of them sang in the choir.
In the early 1990’s because of spiritual and physical growth the ministry of the Good News Church, expanded its walls and the Lord blessed the church to build an education wing with new classrooms, offices, a conference room, and bathrooms. Elder Quick served as the Assistant Pastor at the James Temple Church of God in Christ for 11 years under the teaching and leadership of Bishop William Morgan James. In 1972, the Holy Ghost led him to branch out and pastor his own church. In December 1972, the Good News COGIC at 570 Kings Run Drive was born. In 1980, the church moved to its present location at 1063 North Bend Road.
As a result of more spiritual and physical growth, in June of 2010 a brand new sanctuary was constructed and dedicated on the campus with a more than 450 seating capacity. In addition, the old sanctuary was remodeled into a beautiful fellowship hall.
The power of God was always at work in Pastor Quick's ministry. Our Founder, Pastor James H. Quick, Sr., transitioned from earth to glory on December 12, 2011. We continue to “WIN THE LOST AT ALL COST” just as he taught us.
Our Founders’
Elder James Henderson Quick, Sr. was born in Itta Bena, Mississippi where he grew up in church. He committed his life to the Lord in 1955. In 1957, he was ordained an Elder in the Church of God in Christ, Inc.
Pastor Quick’s main focus was empowering families to be all they can be to the glory of God. Elder Quick’s favorite scripture was Psalm 119:165.
Elder Quick was pastor of the Good News Church of God in Christ for 39 years. He married Mary Helen (Fortune) Quick. Mother Mary Helen Quick was born in Mississippi. She was saved at an early age and committed her life to the Lord. She became the bride of Elder James H. Quick Sr. in 1961. They have two wonderful sons, James Jr. and Joseph.
When her husband, Elder Quick, Sr., told her that the Lord told him to open a church, she followed him as he followed Christ. She supported the vison God gave him through her labor and sacrifice, including financially.
On Monday, December 11, 2011 around 5:30 am, the Lord said, James, you have done what I commanded you to do, you have completed your assigned tasks, come on home and receive your reward. Pastor James Henderson Quick, Sr. transitioned from earth to glory and he is dancing with those who have gone on before him.
